Spreadsheets are the backbone of business and it’s the first place people turn to when they want to get organized. Companies usually have at least one mission critical spreadsheet in their organization and they are very useful. The problem is that they are messy. They are manual, vulnerable to user error, not insecure and not scalable.

The first reason for the spreadsheet is that a new business or department started out with an informal process that evolved to a point where it needed to be tracked or measured. As the business grew, so did the spreadsheet. Over time, this becomes unwieldy.

The second reason for the spreadsheet is that a business has to combine data from several different sources and this is the best option available. One client had 2 different databases that didn’t talk to one another. One was the Customer database and the other was for Accounting.
